
JUBILEE OF WORKERS EVENT AT ST. GABRIEL OFFERS GUIDANCE ON EDUCATION, BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY, AND RETIREMENT

About 65 members of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Mokola, gathered on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, for a Jubilee of Workers event with the theme "Decent work and rest, the balance every worker deserves". The seminar provided attendees with insightful discussions and practical advice across a range of crucial topics, including Education, Business, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Life after Retirement.
The day commenced with a session on Education, led by Dr. S.O.S. Alieme, who emphasized the continuous nature of learning. Dr. Alieme underscored that education is a lifelong experience, spanning from birth to death, and highlighted the critical role of early education in shaping future success.
Moving on to the realm of Business, Mr. Ikenna Udeozo shared valuable principles for entrepreneurial endeavors. He stressed the importance of starting a business early and the necessity of teaching children about finance to equip them for future financial literacy. Mr. Udeozo further advised attendees to prioritize business interests and be proactive as key elements in achieving success in the competitive market.
The session on ICT, presented by Mr. Ezem St-Michael, focused on embracing the ever-evolving digital landscape. Mr. Ezem asserted that technology is here to stay; let's harness it for our advantage. He emphasized the significance of consistency and encouragement within the tech-industry and urged participants to use technology for the greater good and support others in navigating the digital world.
The final topical discussion centered on Life after Retirement, with Eng. O. P. Erondu offering practical guidance for a fulfilling transition. Eng. O. P. Erondu framed retirement as a time for rest and relaxation but stressed the importance of planning and preparation to ensure a smooth experience. He outlined key strategies for a successful retirement, including engaging in saving schemes (long-term and short-term), investing in good companies, diversifying income streams, and prioritizing both "health and children's well-being.
The event witnessed a Keynote Address delivered by Rev. Fr. Lawrence Nwachukwu, who introduced the acronym OMR, representing Opportunity, Marketing, and Rest. Crucially, Fr. Nwachukwu also emphasized the need to find time to rest and recharge, highlighting the importance of well-being alongside professional pursuits. He concluded by reminding the audience that patience and perseverance are essential for achieving goals in all aspects of life.
The Jubilee of Workers event, concluded with attendees expressing their appreciation for the valuable insights and practical take-aways shared by the speakers. The seminar served as a timely reminder of the importance of continuous learning, strategic planning in business and finance, embracing technological advancements responsibly, and preparing thoughtfully for the next chapter of life in retirement.
