Archbishop Kaigama Prays for Souls of Departed, Healing of Injured at SSVP Food Distribution Stampede
The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, has expressed profound shock and sadness over the tragic loss of lives and injuries sustained during a stampede at the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s food distribution centre at Holy Trinity Parish, Maitama, Abuja, on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
The Archbishop described the incident, which claimed the lives of over ten people, as “a devastating blow to our community.” He praised the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s selfless efforts to support the poor and vulnerable, saying it is “a testament to the Church’s commitment to serving the least among us.”
Archbishop Kaigama extended his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased and injured, praying that “God grant them the strength and comfort they need during this difficult time.” He called on the community to come together to pray for the souls of the departed, the healing of the injured, and the consolation of all those affected by the tragedy.
The Prelate drew comfort from the words of Matthew 5:4, saying “May we find solace in the words of our Lord Jesus Christ: ‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.'” He invited all to join him in praying for the eternal repose of the souls of the faithful departed and the healing of the injured.
