JOSEPHITE COMMUNITY CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS WITH CHILDREN & YOUTH
On the 23rd of December 2024, Josephite Community, located at Ogbere Resettlement scheme, Ibadan, hosted a cheerful and engaging programs for the Children and Youth of both the Community and St. Anne Parish. The program was carefully organized with the aim of creating spiritual growth, strengthening community bonds, and providing a fun and educational experience for all involved. Over 200 participants attended, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity from the very start.
The program’s foundation is rested on the exact Apostolate of the Community, inspired by the vision of the Founder (St. Leonardo Murialdo), which is centered on the youth, the poor, the abandoned and the needy. As Josephites, we deeply value the importance of engaging with and uplifting young people. We gathered to provide not only entertainment but also an opportunity for the youth to experience the joy of being part of a vibrant, supportive community.
The program started around 4pm, with the opening address, delivered by one of the Confreres, who emphasized the significance of the event and the values we aim to instill in the children and youth. The event began with a warm welcome and an opening prayer by the Community Superior, Rev. Fr. Justine Adeka CSJ and the Master of Student, Rev. Fr. Arnaud Aniou and Rev. Fr Benjamin Opoku, setting a tone of reverence and unity.
Afterwards the children and youth were divided into groups for various activities, allowing for a balance of excitement and structure. And so, we had both outdoor games at the field and indoor games inside the community. The field was filled with energy as children and adults participated in football sessions, with separate games for each group.
The Confreres and the Adult youth supervised these activities, ensuring everyone had a chance to engage and enjoy. The matches were not only a source of physical exercise but also a way of creating sense of teamwork and friendly competition. Throughout, the lively atmosphere was enhanced by music, photographs, and videos capturing the essence of the event.
For the Indoor games, the children participated in a series of traditional games, familiar to them and enjoyed by many. New games were introduced as well, creating curiosity and laughter. These activities were designed not only to entertain but also to build relationships, allowing the children to interact and learn from one another with the presence of some Confreres to assist them.
As the day drew to a close, the sense of fulfilment was visible. Everyone (children, youth, and elderly ones present), had been touched by the experience. The activities helped create a deep sense of belonging, and the smiles on the faces of the children as they received refreshments were a testament to the success of the event.
Appreciation and Gratitude
A special vote of thanks is due to Rev. Fr. Stephen Balogun, Parish Priest of St. Anne, Ogbere, whose support made this program possible. His presence was not only a blessing but also a powerful demonstration of his commitment to youth engagement. Rev. Fr. Stephen did not only give his approval for the youth and children of St. Anne to be present, he actively participated, playing with the children and even animating parts of the program. We really appreciate him and pray that the good Lord will continue to bless and reward him always.
A special thanks and appreciation also to the Parent of the children and youths of St. Anne Parish, for allowing them participate in the Christmas program organized for them. Thank you all and God bless you all.
The Congregation of St. Joseph (Josephite of Murialdo); “Wish you all Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year!” Amen.
