Gbenga Obilade’s Foundation Tackles Hunger, Malnutrition in Ibadan with Food Bank Launch

A non-governmental organization, Gbenga Obilade’s Foundation, has reached out to hundreds of residents in Ibadan through its food bank initiative where beneficiaries were given free staple foods.

At the event held in Staff Co-operative Hall, Egbeda Local Government, hundreds of residents in Akinjole, Ajoda and its environs besiege the hall, venue of food bank initiative to collect the free food items.

Baale Akinjole, Chief Akanmu Akeem commended the founder of the Foundation, Dr Gbenga Obilade who is also the Bobagunwa of Akinjole Community for giving back to society through his foundation.

He appealed to other well to do Nigerians to emulate the giving spirit of Dr Obilade in reaching out to people during this economy with high inflation and where majority find it difficult to put food on their table.

Dr Obilade in his speech appreciated God for making the day a reality and for bringing foundation’s plans into fruition.

Dr Obilade equally appreciated guests, volunteers and stakeholders of the foundation for their selfless contributions of time, resources and expertise towards the food bank initiative.

“As we gather here, we are reminded that the fight against hunger and malnutrition is not just a sole responsibility but a collective one for us to have a peaceful environment.

“We need to address poverty and hunger with urgency, knowing fully well how the economic downturn has affected various homes in our community”.

There were also moments of testimonies for those who have benefitted Foundation in the past. One of them, Mrs Ajibola Ganiyat whose house was demolished due to Circular Road project narrated how Dr Obilade came to her aid.

Another beneficiary of the Foundation in the recent, Mrs. Dasola Abake narrated how she got iron sheets from Dr Obilade to complete her Church project.

Mrs Sade Olukuewu, the Headmistress, St Andrews Basic School, Koroboto, Ibadan extolled the virtues of Dr Obilade through Gbenga Obilade’s Foundation for the donations made to school to improve school infrastructure and academic performance of the pupils in the school.

Other dignitaries present at the event were; Baale Ogungbade, Chief Ogungbade Muniru Gbolahan, Balogun of Akinjole, Chief Akanmu Sulaimon Abiodun, Mr. Alaba Rafiu Salam Salam, Mrs Rukoyat Kamorudeen and UK representative of Gbenga Obilade’s Foundation, Mrs. Taiwo Titilope.
