FIRST PRELIMINARY OF ‘PASS ON THE FAITH’ QUIZ COMPETITION HOLDS.
The first phase of preliminary of ‘Pass on the faith’ quiz competition was held on Friday 22nd November, 2024 inside St. Joseph Marcello Hall, St. Mary’s Opere.
The five schools that participated in the first phase included: Sacred Heart Catholic School, Ring Road; Sacred Heart Catholic School, Oke Ado; Bishop Finn’s, Old Ife Road; St. Mary’s School, Opere and Louisville, Mokola.
Rev. Fr. Francis Afolabi of St. Mary’s Opere welcomed all to the quiz competition. He thanked the Directorate of Religious Education for the initiative of “Pass on the Faith” quiz competition for the Children/Pupils of Catholic Schools in Ibadan Archdiocese. “We are here to discuss about our faith and to nourish it. All of us are winners as this is to help you build on your faith.” Fr. Afolabi said.
The Director of Religious Education, and Coordinator of ‘Pass on the faith’, Rev. Fr. Clement Emerue also appreciated the schools and students participating. The “Pass on the faith” quiz competition, he added is being organized in honour of V. Rev. Fr. John O’Hea, SMA; who wished every pupil that passes through the Church’s schools must learn the faith and also to evaluate the teachers and pupils’ performances.
Fr. Emerue was happy to announce that the competition will be an annual event as he appreciated Sir Felix Fapohunda for his readiness to sponsor the competition annually. Hence, the second phase of the preliminary has been slated for Friday 29th November, 2024 at Holy Infant, Yemetu; while the final will be on 11th of December, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic School, Oke Ado, Ibadan.
The Director added that apart from the schools that will be contesting in the final, all participating schools are expected at the final, as certificate of participation will be given to all schools at the venue of the final.
After the introduction of dignitaries, Pass on the faith teachers in attendance and the reading of rules and regulations guiding the quiz competition that covers Liturgical Year B (While that of next year will cover Liturgical Year C), the participating schools commenced with writing of Puzzles and then the quiz proper with each of the five schools answering ten questions, without any bonus mark.
At the end of the quiz competition, Bishop Finn’s, Old Ife Road; Louisville, Mokola and Sacred Heart, Ring Road came first, second and third with 90, 80 and 50 Marks respectively while St. Mary’s Opere and Sacred Heart, Oke Ado scored 40 marks each to come fourth.
However, after adding the marks scored from the written puzzles, the final marks stood thus: Bishop Finn’s came first with 100 marks, Louisville, second position with 88 marks, Sacred Heart, Ring Road, third with 59 marks; while both Sacred Heart, Oke Ado and St. Mary’s Opere came fourth with 50 marks each.
Rev. Fr. Clement Emerue at the end of the quiz competition appreciated once again the Host community, schools and pupils that participated.
Catechist Okereke also used the occasion to sensitize all of ‘Pass on the faith competition for families, coming up soon and urged all families to get ready. He also gave the closing prayer while Fr. Afolabi blessed all, followed by refreshment and snapping of group photographs.
