Marriage Prolong life, eases Entrance into Heaven, says Fr Layade
Religious piety and observances are not the only requirements to gain eternal life but also relationship with neighbours. These were his words while admonishing Christians on Marriage and Relationship. Visiting his home Parish, after an academic break at the University of Nigeria, Nsuka; where he is furthering his education in Law.
Rev Fr Emmanuel Olayinka Layade, on the occasion of Juvenile and Youth Harvest at SS Peter & Paul Pro-Cathedral, Lagere, Ile-Ife, Sunday 6 October 2024; educated on one hand that getting married to the right partner prolong the lives of the couple and it is an easy means of making Heaven. On the other hand, it can be a hindrance to long life and heavenly journey if married to the wrong person.
According to him, the sacredness of marriage necessitated God to form a partner for Adam because God was convinced that Adam was lonely. He realized that what is left for human is staying connected to God.
While he observed that sanctity of marriage in the current world has been continuously abused through human introduction of insanity, he educated that since God did not create a man for Adam, neither did he create a woman for Eve as partner, there is no need for human manipulation. Having noticed that a man and woman who ends up as couple are from two different backgrounds and nurtured differently, he did not envisage absence of disagreement.
However, if coming together which is meant to be a blessing is becoming cancerous, Fr. Layade referred couples to the divine third-party present at their union in case of relative inconsistencies. He re-informed Christians, especially Catholics that though court marriage or traditional marriage can be broken, there is no room for divorce in Christian marriage, especially Catholics marriage; hence, intending couples should seek God's guidance before venturing into marriage.
Though he agreed that there is room for separation in the Church when life is at risk, he was distinctive enough to avoid mistaking the provision for divorce - since there is no room for remarriage under such circumstances.
The would-be Rev. Fr. Barrister educated intending couples who may be lured into only marriage at the registry to ensure they sign "FORM E." According to him, it makes divorce-minded individuals rethink on several occasions especially when properly sharing is involved.
While the priest encouraged those married in the eye of the society but yet in the eye of the Church to quickly begin the process of solemnizing their marriage, singles were told to look carefully before they leap.
