GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (Episode 48)

GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (Episode 48)

There are seven Spiritual gifts given to us human beings by God that should be nurtured towards achieving an ideal life; they are:

Wisdom

Understanding

Counsel

Fortitude

 Knowledge

 Piety

 Fear of God

WISDOM

The gift of wisdom embodies all other gifts, as charity embraces other virtues.

Wisdom is perfect of all gifts, and strengthens our faith, fortifies hope, perfects charity, and promotes the practice of virtues in the highest regions.

It enlightens the mind to discern and relish things that are divine. In other words, wisdom enables us to love the things of God, and to view life from his point of view.

It keeps us from judging only by appearances, and makes us mature in the way we think and act.

The gift of wisdom enables us to make decisions and give the kind of guidance that accords well with God's will.

Wisdom begins and ends with the fear of the Lord, Holy reverence and respect for the Lord and his word.

Example of the use of wisdom in the Bible;

There is a story in the Bible about Solomon, a young man, who after God offered him everything his heart desired, requested for wisdom to judge and govern well among the people. In response to this humble and wise request, and not having asked for riches, wealth or honour or the life of his enemy, or long life, God said, I will give you riches, wealth and honour such that none of the kings who has ever lived had (2 Chronicles 1:11-12).

In 1 Kings 3:11, we are shown an example of the wisdom that King Solomon had, when he settled the dispute between the two women who claimed to be the mother of a child. There is a difference between earthly and godly wisdom: The wisdom of God is pure, peaceful, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy, bears good fruits, and is sincere (James 3:17). True wisdom is found in obedience to God, fearing him and his wisdom, and praying and asking for it. True wisdom comes from God.
