A Painful Exit: Ibadan Altar Servers Mourn

The Ibadan Catholic association of Altar servers (IBCASAN) Family is in mourning following the untimely passing of Bernard Victor Egewusi, a beloved 26-year-old altar server whose life was characterized by unwavering dedication, kindness, and an infectious spirit of service.

A Funeral mass was organized at Christ the King Catholic Church, odo Ona, after which he was laid to rest at the Bode igbo Catholic cemetery.

Speaking at the Mass, Fr Gabriel Udoh gave an homily of how Bernard lived and emphasized on the service he rendered to the church.

“No one is too young to die , No one is too old to die” Father preached. Altar servers paid last respect with their vestment and joined by other family of the catholic community. Fr Christopher Areoye while giving the final note , urged everyone to pray for him and may his soul rest in peace.

Bernard, served as the Archdiocesan president IBCASAN for years now, becoming a cherished member of the congregation. His commitment to his faith was matched only by his enthusiasm for helping others. He frequently organized programs, offering support to the less fortunate serve on the altar and inspiring his peers to give back.

“Bernard was a shining light in the community ,” “His presence on the altar brought joy and warmth to our services. He had a rare ability to connect with people of all ages, and his compassion was truly remarkable.”

Bernard’s impact extended beyond his church and studies; he was also involved in various volunteer efforts, including tutoring children and participating in local environmental initiatives. His dedication to service earned him numerous accolades, but he remained humble, often stating that the true reward was in giving.

Bernard Victor Egewusi leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith that will resonate within the community for years to come. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him
