Bishop Ayah Ordains Four, calls for Ministerial Faithfulness among Priests

The Catholic Bishop of Uyo Diocese, Most Rev. John Ebebe Ayah recently, ordained four new priests – Rev. Abasiofonidara Boniface Edward, Rev. Anthony Joseph Udo, Rev. Nsuhoridem Pius Umouman, and Rev. Anthony Innocent Timothy, for the diocese.

At the Ordination Mass celebrated at the Bishop James Moynagh Pastoral Centre, Uyo, Bishop John Ebebe Ayah, the ordaining Prelate in his introductory remarks, expressed gratitude to God and thanked the faithful for their support.

In his homily, Bishop Ayah emphasized the importance of the Priesthood, stating that priests serve as mediators between God and humanity, catering to the spiritual needs of the faithful. He urged the newly ordained to be faithful ministers of the Gospel and called on the faithful to provide an enabling environment for their work.

Bishop Ayah also highlighted the Catholic Church’s commitment to spiritual growth and development, emphasizing the importance of education, spirituality, and moral integrity in the selection of candidates for the Priesthood.

Addressing the current socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria, Bishop Ayah appealed to the government to reduce the cost of governance and channel resources towards providing basic amenities for citizens.

“We urge the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens, addressing the high cost of living, insecurity, and other pressing issues,” Bishop Ayah said.

The ordination rites followed the homily, after which the 2024 Diocesan Harvest Committee was inaugurated. The Uyo Diocesan Laity Council Chairman, Mr. Clement Nkanta, presented gifts to the newly ordained priests.
