Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Parish was filled with parishioners from 8:30 a.m. on May 3, 2026, as the community gathered to mark the dual occasion of the Fathers’ Day celebration and the 2026 Harvest Launch.
The event was led by two distinguished guests: Rev. Fr. Phillip of the Dominican University and Community, and Lady Maryann Nkiruka Onuoha, Chief Executive Officer of Bellamaria Travels Ltd., Lagos.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Phillip emphasized the divine responsibility entrusted to fathers to care for and guide their families, drawing parallel lines with God’s providence for humanity. He urged fathers to remain committed and attentive to their familial duties, discouraging negligence and indifference.
Representing the Catholic Men Organization, Felele Branch, Lady Onuoha delivered a speech centered on the Archdiocesan theme: “Responsible Fatherhood: St. Joseph as a Model for Catholic Husbands and Fathers.” She highlighted the intentional structure of the family unit comprising father, mother, and children and underscored the critical role of the father in ensuring the well-being and stability of the home.
She further outlined three essential attributes of a responsible father: protector, provider, and mentor. Drawing from Biblical examples, she referenced St. Joseph as a model, noting how he protected Mary and Jesus from Herod, provided for his family, and mentored Jesus through the craft of carpentry. She also cited the father of the Prodigal Son as a figure worthy of emulation for his compassion and forgiveness.
In her concluding remarks, Lady Onuoha encouraged all parishioners, fathers, mothers, and children alike to embrace responsibilities within the family, stressing that strong family values are foundational to a healthy society.
The celebration concluded in a joyful atmosphere, with an abundance of food and refreshments, as parishioners shared in fellowship and gratitude.
