Liturgical celebrations that have the highest rank in the calendar. Solemnities are days of the greatest importance and begin with Evening Prayer of the preceding day. Some have a vigil Mass, when Mass is celebrated on the preceding day in the evening for instance Christmas and Easter also have an Octave for their extended celebration.

In addition to the moveable feasts like Easter and Pentecost, the calendar for the Universal Church contains fourteen (14) solemnities namely:

  1. Mary, Mother of God
  2. Epiphany
  3. St. Joseph
  4. Annunciation
  5. Trinity Sunday
  6. Body and Blood of Christ
  7. Sacred Heart
  8. St. John the Baptist
  9. SS. Peter & Paul
  10. Assumption
  11. All Saints
  12. Christ the King
  13. Immaculate Conception
  14. Christmas
