The Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel ‘Leke Abegunrin, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese, paid a pastoral visit to St. Leo Catholic Church, Orita-Challenge, Ibadan, on April 19, 2026. During this memorable occasion, he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 94 candidates, sealing them with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and strengthening them in their Christian journey.
In his homily, the Archbishop charged the newly confirmed to remain steadfast in their faith, urging them to live as true Christians and courageous soldiers of Christ. He emphasized the importance of witnessing to the Gospel through their words and actions, especially in a world that increasingly challenges Christian values. He encouraged them to be guided by the Holy Spirit in all they do and to uphold the teachings of the Church with conviction and love.
The celebration was further enriched as the parish community also marked Mother’s Day, honoring mothers for their invaluable role in nurturing faith, love, and moral values within families and society. Special prayers were offered for all mothers, acknowledging their sacrifices, strength, and unwavering commitment to raising godly children.
The combined celebration of Confirmation and Mother’s Day made the occasion particularly significant, as it highlighted both the growth of the Church through the newly confirmed and the vital role of mothers as the first teachers of the faith. It was indeed a joyful and spiritually uplifting event for the entire parish community.
