Happy Easter
Dr. Helen Titilola OLOJEDE
Sing alleluia, the Lord is risen, He is risen indeed alleluia.
Easter Sunday stands at the very heart of the Christian faith, the day when the Church proclaims with joy: Christ is risen, alleluia! After the solemn journey of Lent and the sacred intensity of the Triduum, this day dawns not merely as a conclusion, but as a profound beginning. It is the triumph of life over death, hope over despair, and light over darkness. Easter is not simply a remembrance of an event that happened long ago; it is a living mystery into which we are continually drawn. The Resurrection is God’s definitive answer to human suffering and sin. The tomb is empty, not as an absence, but as a sign of God’s powerful presence breaking through what seemed final and unchangeable. What was sealed is now opened; what was lost is restored.
The liturgy of the season and of Easter Sunday in particular invites us into this joy. Having passed through the silence of Holy Saturday, the Church now bursts forth in celebration. The Gloria returns, the Alleluia is sung again, and the faithful are reminded that death does not have the last word. This joy is not superficial or fleeting; it is rooted in the deep assurance that Christ has conquered death, and in Him, we too are promised new life.
Yet, Easter also calls for a personal response. The Resurrection is not only something to be celebrated; it is something to be lived. We are invited to rise with Christ, to leave behind what binds us, to step out of our own “tombs” of fear, sin, and despair, and to embrace the newness of life that God offers. Just as the disciples moved from confusion to faith, we too are called to trust in the unseen and to recognize the risen Lord's presence in our midst.
In a world often marked by uncertainty and brokenness, the message of Easter remains ever relevant. It reminds us that no situation is beyond redemption, no darkness beyond the reach of God’s light. The Resurrection assures us that God is always at work, even when hope seems lost. As we celebrate Easter Sunday, we are invited not only to rejoice but to become witnesses of this hope. Our lives are meant to reflect the joy of the Resurrection, in our actions, our relationships, and our faith. The empty tomb is not the end of the story; it is the beginning of a mission.
May this Easter renew in us a deep and abiding faith, a hope that endures, and a love that reflects the risen Christ. Alleluia! Christ is truly risen.
