In a profound gesture of Christian love and solidarity, the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria, CYON Mokola Deanery Youth Leaders, led by the Deanery President Okeke Victor-Moses, alongside parish presidents and youth leaders, paid a spiritually uplifting visit to Agodi Prison on Thursday December 18, 2025. The outreach combined the presentation of relief materials with a powerful message of hope, faith, and renewal for the inmates.

The visit was inspired by Christ’s call to remember those in captivity and formed part of the deanery’s sustained commitment to charity and social responsibility. It also aimed to expose young people to the realities of life, emphasizing the importance of living as law-abiding citizens who uphold the values of God and humanity.

The delegation was warmly received by the Prison Welfare Officer, Mr. A. H. Adeleye, who commended the initiative and facilitated meaningful interaction with the inmates. Participants on the visit included youth leaders from various parishes within the deanery: Onuegbu Emmanuel (St. Rita Parish, Arometa), Amadi Emmanuel (St. Richard Parish, Jericho), Ohika Pascal (St. Monica Parish, Ologunerun), Edwin Esther (St. Agnes Parish, Apete), Obi Cyprian (St. Gabriel Parish, Mokola), the CYON Mokola Deanery Director of Socials, Andrew Joseph, and the CYON Mokola Deanery President, Okeke Victor-Moses.

A key moment of the outreach took place at the prison’s Church, where inmates had gathered for prayer and fellowship. Addressing them, the Deanery President, Okeke Victor-Moses delivered words of encouragement anchored in faith, expressing admiration for their steadfast commitment to God despite the challenges of confinement. He reminded them that God sees every act of faithfulness and rewards dedication in His own time, urging them to remain united, love one another, and support each other as they journey through their present circumstances.

The inmates listened attentively and responded with heartfelt gratitude, appreciating the visit, the prayers, and the comforting presence of fellow believers who chose to remember them.

As a further expression of Christian charity, the delegation donated essential items for distribution among the inmates. These included toiletries, bathing soaps and detergents, sachet beverages, sanitary pads, slippers, mosquito nets, toothbrushes, toothpastes, and fumigating chemicals. The donations were warmly received and acknowledged as a meaningful contribution to inmate welfare.

Overall, the visit underscored the call to live out faith through compassion, service, and action. By reaching out to those behind bars, the CYON Mokola Deanery reaffirmed its belief in redemption, mercy, and the transforming power of God’s love, while also reminding young people everywhere that true freedom begins with right living, responsibility, and reverence for God.
