O GOD, SAVE NIGERIA IN DISTRESS!
The Nigeria Civil War of 1967-1970 is an event we would not like to remember. We lost at least 2 million people and we are still having the scars of that war. What led to the outbreak of that war is child’s play compared to what is happening today.
The way we are going portends evil days ahead. There is a need for serious prayers and re-orientation to avoid a re-occurrence of bloodshed. This August hunger protest has claimed many lives!
Late Sonny Okosun said, “Many years after Independence, we still find it hard to start. How long shall we be patient till we reach the promised land? Let’s save Nigeria, so Nigeria won’t die! Which way Nigeria? We made mistakes in the oil boom, not knowing that was our doom.
Some people now have everything while some have nothing. Let’s save Nigeria, so Nigeria won’t fall. Which way Nigeria, I love my fatherland, I want to know. Which way, Nigeria is heading to?”
Our rulers, “They never defend orphans in court or listen when widows present their case.” Is. 1:23. To solve our economic problem, you increase the minimum wage for public workers.
How many people will benefit from the so-called minimum wage? The palliatives you introduced have not solved our problem either. Are we going to fold our hands and watch our nation collapse?
“Jerusalem (Nigeria), you were once like silver, but now you are worthless; you were like good wine, but now you are only water. Your leaders are rebels and friends of thieves” Is.1:22-23. Gone are the days when the common man eats thrice daily.
Today, a rich farmer is not even sure of a meal because of ravaging herdsmen, kidnappers, etc. Lord, come and save us for we are dying! “Restore us, O Lord God of Host! Let your face shine on us, that we may be saved!” Ps 80:19.
“Great men and women of yesteryear were heroes of love. Many of them who were leaders favoured the interest of the led: They put the people first” says anonymous. Unfortunately, things have changed: Leaders of today do not have the interest of the masses at heart.
Even the poor masses are in a hurry to make ends meet. And most of the enlightened ones among us are not courageous to speak the truth. So, by our way of life, we keep increasing the gap between us and God. Please Lord, send us Moses or Jeremiah to lead us out of this bondage!
After 63 years of independence, Nigeria is neither independent nor peaceful because a handful of people are destroying the country. We should not continue to sit down and look at them because he who claps hands for a mad man to dance is himself a mad man.
So, those who said the Nigeria nation has not gotten her leadership compass right are correct. Like a computer system, we need to install anti-virus to clear all the viruses and reformat the entire system to make it work again. This time, you put in new materials completely. Nigeria, the giant of Africa should be bold to take the bull by its horn.
Prof. Ben Nwabueze once said, “Poor leadership at the federal level was responsible for Nigeria’s inclusion among the ‘worst failed states’ in the world.
I believe however, that the country can be made to work again, as it was doing before and to become a great nation it was destined to be, and a leading state in the African continent and indeed the world. But for that to happen there has to be a change of leadership.”
Fola Ojo said, “For the guy who was appointed a minister, and the one elected a governor or a senator, opportunity to serve in government is perceived an opportunity to loot and loom large.” Most of our politicians have no fear of God. “But where shall wisdom be found? Behold, the fear of the Lord that is wisdom.” Job 28:12,28.
We the electorate on the other hand made ourselves very cheap by accepting money or its equivalent in exchange for our votes. Some of us are guilty for we played. If the valve meant to prevent leakage is itself leaking, then the leakage becomes unpreventable.
We have sin as a nation, we have sin as individuals. Let’s be remorseful for our evil deeds to attract the mercy and compassion of God that He may restore us back to His Love. “I will restore to you the years which the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you.” Joel 2:25.
“O Lord, you once favoured your land and revived the fortunes of Jacob; you forgave the guilt of your people and covered all their sins.
You averted all your rage; you calmed the heat of your anger. Revive us now, God, our helper! Put an end to your grievance against us” Ps.85:1-4. Lord, my heart bleeds as I write now, kindly dry my tears and save Nigeria in distress!
This hunger protest has brought about the death of many Nigerians. May their gentle souls rest in peace! “It is time for the Lord to act, for thy law has been broken” Ps 119:126. Rise up, O Lord and send men and women of your choice to save Nigeria like you did for Israelites of old.
You are our potter and we your clay, the work of your hands. To you be glory and honour in Jesus’ Mighty Name!
There is hope! “Because the Lord is righteous, He will save Jerusalem (Nigeria) and everyone there who repents” Is. 1:27. The Lord Himself has invited us saying, “Now, let’s settle the matter.
You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you clean as snow” Is. 1:18. While we hope and pray to the Lord to redeem Nigeria, let us confess our sins sincerely and ask for pardon like the people of Nineveh.
