Sacred Heart Parish Ajebamidele, Ile-Ife Celebrates Grandparents’ day in Grand style

To God be the glory, Sacred Heart Parish Ajebamidele, Ile-Ife, joyfully celebrated the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly with a resounding theme: “Do not cast me off in my old age” – Psalm 71.

The parish marked this momentous occasion with a two-day memorable program, between Saturday 27th to Sunday 28th of July 2024. The celebration began with an intergenerational Mass on Saturday 27th led by Rev. Fr. Nelson Olagunju, who emphasized the significance of grandparents and the elderly, affirming that their lives matter.

In his homily, he highlighted the importance of honouring and cherishing our elderly, drawing inspiration from the wisdom of Psalm 71.

The day’s festivities continued with strolling Rosary, where participants prayed and reflected on the blessings of age and experience. A nourishing breakfast followed, providing an opportunity for socialization and community building among the elderly.

An enlightening health talk, delivered by a medical expert; Dr. Clement Adepiti who is a member of the Parish Marriage, Family, and Human Life Committee (MFHLC)), focused on age-related health concerns and offered valuable tips for maintaining physical and mental well-being.

Complimentary medical checkups were also provided, whereby the blood sugar level and blood pressure of all the grandparent were checked and necessary medical advises was given

These thoughtful activities and many more, collectively fulfilled Pope Francis’ vision of old age as a blessed time. All the seventeen (17) grandparents in attendance in attendance expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Parish Priest and the MFHLC for orchestrating such a wonderful program in their honour.

The event was a testament to the parish’s deep appreciation for their elderly members and a celebration of the wisdom, love, and experience they bring to the community.

By acknowledging the value of their lives, the parish reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and empowering its elderly community.

The celebration was concluded with a thanksgiving Mass on Sunday 28th of July which was also the global day celebrations for grandparents. 

The parish priest; Rev Fr. Nelson Olagunju appreciated all the elderly for their great sacrifices in instilling values and faith in their children and prayed the Lord will nourish them with sound body and mind. He equally thanked the MFHLC for the tremendous efforts in making the celebration a reality.
