Oke-Padi Deanery Laity Council Elects Pioneer Executive

Parish Laity Councillors under the newly constituted Oke-Padi Deanery gathered at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Monatan, on Sunday 23rd March, 2025, to elect those that will be at the helm of affairs of the Deanery for the next four years.

The election which was presided over by the Deanery Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Patrick Odediran, who was assisted by the Archdiocesan Laity Gen. Secretary, Mr Dominic Aminu-Taiwo, and the Archdiocesan P.R.O. 1, Miss Beatrice Adigun, was adjudged free, fair and credible by all councillors in attendance.

Prior to the election, the deanery meeting was held and Councillors received cheerful news that the deanery emerged overall winner at the just concluded 2025 Laity Week Celebration, with 3rd position in Quiz Competition and 1st position in the inaugural Archbishop's Cup competition.

Also, the Chaplain appreciated the Caretaker Committee under the leadership of Mr Luke Adeyeye from St. Mary Cathedral, Oke-Padi, for their dedication and zeal which led to successes recorded within the short period of time they were in office. He prayed that God shall bless them in their future endeavours.

 

At the end of the keenly contested election, the following people emerged as the pioneer Executive of the Deanery;

 

President- Mr Luke Adeyeye (St. Mary Cathedral, Oke-Padi); Vice President- Mr Innocent Ume (St. Patrick Basorun); General Secretary- Mr John Sunday Takuro (St. Mary Cathedral, Oke-Padi); Assistant General Secretary - Mrs Rebecca Nwankwo (St. Jude, Iwo-Road); Treasurer-Mr Richard Akin Gbelekale (Divine Mercy Monatan); Financial Secretary - Sir. Emmanuel Abayomi Abulude (St. James Olorunda-Aba) and Public Relations Officer- Engr Kenneth Ugonna (St. Jude Iwo-Road)

 

Fr. Odediran charged the newly-elected executive members to be diligent in their duties, dedicated and work towards uplifting the spirituality of the Deanery.

In his acceptance speech, the pioneer President, Mr. Luke Adeyeye, thanked the Councillors for trusting the new executives with their mandate and seek for their further cooperation which would be very instrumental towards achieving anticipated successes.

Also present at the meeting was the Parish Priest of Divine Mercy Monatan, V. Rev. Fr. Joachim Ake, who expressed his pleasure for having the Laity Councillors from the Deanery at his Parish for their meeting.
