Our Lady of Perpetual Light Chapel, OAU Constitutes Committee for Students’ Welfare Kitchen …..as Parishioner Donates Confessional
The Pariest Priest of Our Lady of Perpetual Light Chapel, OAU, Rev, Fr. Michael Akinwumi Akinsode has constituted a Committee to oversee the Students’ Welfare Kitchen Scheme, which was recently set up in the Parish.
Announcing the membership of the Committee, the Chaplain Fr. Akinsode pleaded with the members to help take the scheme to the next level as well as make sure indigent students of the Community are well considered in the program. The Priest made this pronouncement while celebrating the Holy Mass of the First Sunday of Lent 2025. He particularly encouraged members to see the project as a major task, aimed at ensuring that indigent students who are in need are catered for. The membership of the Committtee included: Mrs. Dorothy Salami, Engr. Peter Nwanezeigwe, Mr. Stephy Umeh, Emmanuel Osewe Akubor, Mrs. Patricia Umeaku and two representatives from the Nigerian Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS).
Meanwhile, Fr. Akinsode has appreciated the effort of a parishioner, Mr. Owoseni Gbenga Enitan Alex who recently donated a Confessional to the Chaplaincy. According to the Chaplain, the idea of having a confessional in the Chaplaincy has been one of the projects he had in mind for the parish, considering the fact that it will encourage parishioners to partake in the Sacrament of Penance. Fr. Akinsode thanked Mr. Alex for helping with that project, while appealing to parishioners to frequent the sacrament of penance during this period of Lent and beyond.
It will be recalled that the Catholic Chaplaincy of Our Lady of Perpetual Light, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, recently launched/established a Student Welfare Kitchen for indigent students of the Community. Although the program had existed within the Chaplaincy long before now, but had been (majorly) restricted to the needs of indigent students during examination period.
During the launching of the project, Fr. Akinsode had pointed out that, not all students on campus have access to three square meals a day and as such there is the urgent need to reinvigorate the program/scheme.
