ST. EUNAN QUASI PARISH ODO OBA CELEBRATES COUPLES HANG OUT
As part of the events marked out for the year, couples hang-out was glamorously celebrated at St. Eunan quasi parish, Odo Oba, Ibadan, on Sunday February 16th 2025 to rekindle love among couples.
Speaking at the opening remark, the Parish Laity President, Mr Alamu Lawrence said the program was in three folds (social, spiritual and educative) because it embodies all aspects of the family life and it is the first of its kind in the parish.
The first topic tagged “COMMUNICATION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION IN MARRIAGE” was moderated by Catechist (Mrs) Margret Ige who started her session with an appreciation for the privilege to speak at the event. She defined communication as imparting information either verbally or non-verbally. In her words, communication in marriage builds trust, respect and helps to resolve conflicts and avoid misunderstanding among couples and the tone in which it is done also matters.
She further highlighted some things that can be done to foster conflict resolution which includes: Being empathetic, focusing on solution, resolving issues in love and in time and avoiding blames. Rounding up her session she said when couples are closer, it will be difficult for external forces to penetrate whether physically, spiritually or socially.
The second session tagged “RENEWING THE MARRIAGE BED” was moderated by Deaconess Oyedoyin who started with a Bible passage citing the origin of family. She admonished that the marriage bed must be undefiled and free from blemish. In her words, defilement can be in any form, not only sexually. It could be in speech, behavior or attitude. She further pointed out that bed signifies a place of rest or pleasure. The session was rounded up with a brief explanation of renewal which means refreshment or repair, citing the need for couples to be sensitive to each other’s feelings and mood.
Msgr Peter Otubusin who was also present at the event commended the organizers of the event and urged that it be an annual parish event because it was well organized and colourful with activities that fostered more connection among couples
