YOUR HAPPINESS LIES IN SHARING…FR. BALOGUN

The parish priest of St. Anne Catholic Church, Ogbere, Ibadan, Rev. Fr. Stephen Balogun has stated  that people’s happiness lies in sharing their blessings with others. The priest said this during his homily titled: “Trust God and be happy” on Sunday, 16th February, 2025.

Earlier at the beginning of the Mass, the Chief Celebrant, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel A.B. Coker, CSJ has reiterated that the readings of the day spoke about happiness and that happiness is different from enjoyment, in the sense that happiness lasts longer but enjoyment lasts for just a moment. He added that there is no happiness in material things but in God.

Similarly, Fr. Balogun reminded the parishioners that true happiness lasts forever. “Amidst eating garri, we are happy. Many are eating chicken but still not happy. Happiness is inside of you and God alone is the source of true happiness.” He said.

The priest enjoined all never to put their trust in any man for man will always disappoint, while God never disappoints. He said the Gospel reading teaches all to be on level ground before going up. To build our mindset and pray to God to help us to grow. “Today, the Church brings our attention to a real life situation in the teachings of Jesus Christ, when he gathered his disciples at a piece of level ground, indicating that we are all favourites of God. Hence, no one is inferior/superior, for we are made in the Image and Likeness of God. As human beings, we are to relate with people on plain grounds and love them for who they are.”

Fr. Balogun said God made us to know, love and serve Him in order to be with Him forever, hence, he enjoined all to relate with others in love and they will find ground for happiness, especially during this Jubilee Year of Hope. He added that poverty should not take away their joy because peace is more important. “In this Jubilee Year of Hope, the Church reminds us that our hope in Jesus Christ goes beyond earthly achievements and challenges. The Man/woman who lives each day trusting in the power of God, shall never be disappointed. He/she lives each day in hope for a better tomorrow.” The priest stated.

Also present at the day’s Mass was Rev. Fr. Christopher Ojo of SS Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan, who was in the parish to rejoice with Mr Jacob Babalola on the occasion of his 55th birthday thanksgiving.

The parish priest appreciated both visiting priests for celebrating the day’s mass in the parish, while all joined the birthday celebrant in thanksgiving to God for the gift of life.
