SOME CHRISTIANS ARE QUIET AT WRONG TIME...Fr. Balogun

The Parish Priest of St. Anne Catholic Church, Ogbere, Ibadan, Oyo State has admonished Christians to voice out their problems and challenges in prayer to God, who is always able like Bartimaeus, a blind beggar did in the day’s Gospel.

The Priest gave the admonition during his homily with the theme “That I may see again.” He added that no one would appreciate what it is to be blind, until one experiences it. Hence, Bartimaeus cherished his sight, since he was never born blind before.

Fr. Balogun stated that many have eyes but still do not see because they lacked insight, which is the in-depth vision and thus urged Christians to pray for insight and not just physical eyes, for Christ who did it for Bartimaeus can still do it for them if they ask with faith and trust in Him.

The Cleric condemned the attitude of many Christians who would rather be praying for the destruction of their enemies, whenever they have the opportunity of asking from God rather than asking for what is good for them; advising we need not be quite. Some are quite at wrong time. Some of us are complaining and not praying. “The story of Bartimaeus in today's Gospel reading (Mk.10:46-52) is so emotional, touching, inspiring, and dramatic. It calls us to the reality of inner blindness and directs us to Jesus in prayer like the blind Bartimaeus. Sometimes in life, we find ourselves in desperate situations. We need not be quiet, but speak up like Bartimaeus! Bartimaeus was a desperate, blind, poor beggar. He was focused on Jesus for help, and nothing could distract him, he shouted the louder. If you can just have faith and trust in God, you shall be victorious too.”

The CAN Coordinator in Ona Ara LGA of Oyo State also encouraged all to use their knowledge and information available at their disposal to make a difference in their lives and their businesses as he said education is very important, while information is also power. “Open your mouth and ask for help. Pray against poverty of minds and spirit.” The Priest urged.

Like Bartimaeus did by following Christ to bear witness to Christ’ healing power, Fr. Balogun appealed to all Christians to have heart of thanksgiving to acknowledge the goodness of God over their lives and never to be ingrates. “Bartimaeus got his healing because of his unshakable faith. He knew what he wanted from the Lord, he went straight for it. He threw off his cloak, a symbol of an end to begging for money by the roadside. You also must throw off the cloak/mantle of shame; stand tall and shout aloud to seek God's blessings/healing. God can make all things new. He can restore all that was lost. He is calling you too. If you can just believe, you also shall achieve! Finally, Bartimaeus taught us gratitude and praise as children of God. Don't be an ingrate!”

At the day’s Mass, the family of Mr. Benjamin Njoku had special thanksgiving to acknowledge God’s healing over the family.
