GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT – PART V (PIETY)
- Piety is synonymous with sanctity, holiness, respect, veneration, godliness, devotion etc., and is recognition of our belonging to God, our deep bond with him, and the relationship that gives meaning to our whole life.
- It keeps us resolute in communion with him even in most difficult and troubled moments.
- Piety begets a felt affection for God as our most loving father in our hearts, and because of that, inspires us to love and respect persons and things consecrated to him.
- Piety helps us to love our lives as full and complete human beings, and draws us to Mass.
- A pious person approaches prayer or worship not as a task or burden but as an act of joyful love.
- Piety prompts us to pray even when we may not feel like doing so, and helps us to honour our fathers and mothers, and respect elders and those in authority.
- A pious person adheres to the commandments and teachings of God.
- Piety instils in us a desire to always do what is pleasing to God.
