People attack the Catholic Church more than any other religion. They attack our doctrines, our mode of worship, our priests and even our Holy Father, the Pope. They do all these because we refuse to please the world. Some say we worship Mary even though we clearly do not. The Bible tells us to honour her as the "mother of our Lord", but they twist this truth and say we have taken Mary to be equal to God. This same set of people laugh at us for asking the saints to pray for us. Yet they have no problem exalting their pastors above God and asking their friends to pray for them. We live in a world where people don't want rules, so they attack the Church that keeps the commandments of God.

When we say abortion is murder, pro-choice will carry placards and enter the streets chanting, “My body, my choice.” When we say marriage is between a man and a woman, the gay community will say we have the right to choose who our partner should be. Freedom of choice. When we say divorce is not permissible by God, they will say we have come again. The media on the other hand is always ready to take the Pope’s words out of context to drive traffic and cause confusion. When he speaks about mercy, they say he’s changing Church teaching and when he speaks with compassion, they claim he agrees with their sins.

We the Catholic faithful have heard all the myths and multiple lies and distractions going all around us. They say Catholics worship Mary, statues, the Bishop of Rome, Priests are not authorised to forgive sins, only God is, thus Catholics believe their priests are God. (see Jn 20:23 in answer to this one). Infant Baptism even though the Lord’s Apostles baptised infants. There is no Holy Trinity. Catholic Church contradicted scripture by moving the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. Catholic worship isn't scriptural even though ninety-five per cent of Holy Mass is Scriptural. Church needs to move with the times and permit gay marriage, among other things, the list goes on and on and on. They do all this to destabilize the mother Church, but they keep forgetting that the Person who built this Church built it on a solid rock and not gate of hell shall prevail over it.

What about some protestant pastors who spread heresies about the Eucharist saying it’s just ordinary bread. They call our Confession unbiblical even though it was Jesus Christ himself who directly gave our priests the power to absolve sins. They call our beautiful statues and images idols, but they are blind to the fact that they are worshippers of money and success. Why does the Church suffer this much attacks? Well, it’s because the devil hates the Church founded by Jesus Christ. The more the world follows Satan, the more it will attack the Catholic Church because our faith is the biggest obstacle to his lies. But we must not be bothered because the Church has survived worse attacks for more than 2000 years.

Martyrs have given up their lives rather than deny their faith. The saints have stood strong against all heresies and persecutions both internal and external. We too must do the same today simply by bearing witness to our faith. When they attack Mary, we will love her more. When they mock our sacraments, we will receive them more devoutly. When they lie about the Pope, we will come out to correct their lies and pray for him more and more. The truth is, the Church does not need defending; Christ is already her defender. But it is our collective responsibility to stand for the truth and to strengthen the hearts of our weak brethren. “If the world hates you, know that it hated me first” (John 15:18).

Churches all criticize each other. Of course since the Catholic Church is the central Church of Christianity, it gets most of the abuse. Non-Catholic Churches that split from the Catholic Church have to continually justify what they did and to justify their continued existence. Criticism of the Church is ironic because it was the Catholic Church that kept belief in God and belief in the Bible alive throughout the ages. It was the Church that preserved and copied the Scriptures themselves. Otherwise they would have been murdered and forgotten.

Without the Roman Catholic Church, Western Europe would still be pagan, or, more likely, Muslim. Some critics claim the Catholic Church is not Christian. If so, one wonders how a true Christian Church can be created from a false, non-Christian Church! Critics of the Church are shooting themselves in the foot. The critics unwittingly have no idea that most of what they think Catholics believe and do, is borne out of bigotry and ignorance. Eighty years ago, Venerable Fulton Sheen said “millions hate the Catholic Church for what they believe it to be. Not a handful hate her for what she actually is.” 

 

Let us pray for Catholic faithful all over the world: Heavenly Father, we your children come before you this very day with a heart of gratitude, we have come to say thank you for the precious gift of another beautiful brand new day, we adore and magnify your most precious holy name. Lord, we commit this day unto your mighty care, we pray for your continued blessings, goodness and Mercies upon us, we pray for your divine presence, grant us the grace to be productive and fruitful in all that we do in this new day. We pray for your protection and guidance oh Lord, keep us safe from all seen and unseen dangers as we move To and Fro in search for greener pastures, may we never encounter situations that will surmount our resolve to handle and grant us victory at the end.

Almighty Father, we entrust our life into your guiding and loving hands. Be with us and always at work in us. Father, entrusting our life to you is the best thing we can do for ourselves, because you are the owner of our life and you know all the things inside our hearts, our hopes and our strengths, as well as our pains and insecurities.  Father, we also lift up to you our plans and goals for our life and our families, please help us all to succeed in all our endeavours. 

Also, bless us  with courageous and persevering heart so we do not easily lose hope when things do not turn out as expected; help us to see that everything happens for a purpose and that all shall be well in the end, in your own time and wisdom in Jesus name. Amen!!!
