On Friday, 14th August 2026, the clergy, faithful, and well-wishers bade farewell to Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, Archbishop of Benin.

We gathered for Mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Cathedral, Benin City, in prayer and thanksgiving for the gift of his life and ministry, commending his soul to the loving mercy of God.

After the Mass, the remains of Archbishop Akubeze was taken to Holy Cross Cathedral where he was interred.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
