Ember Months are not Fearful, Says Fr. Adeyemi

The Parish Priest, SS Peter & Paul Catholic Pro-Cathedral, Lagere, Ile-Ife; Rev. Fr. Peter Adeyemi, has on Sunday 15th September, 2024 disregarded the disreputable preconception of Ember Months.

In Nigeria, “Ember Months” is a term commonly used to refer to the last four months of the years – September, October, November and December. The Priest wondered whether the assertion is true.

According to him, there might not be any casual connection between the accidents that happened during other times of the year and the ember months.

Fr. Adeyemi reasoned that there is no time of the year when accidents and dangerous occurrences never happened; but because of the preconceived ideas about ember months, any chaotic and sad circumstance during these months are attributed as the outcome of ember months like a blood-sucking month.

In his opinion, taking precautionary measures against avoidable danger while on the road - either by trekking, riding on motorcycle, most especially when driving matters, without taking the sanity and competence of other motorists for granted. While many may be drowned in the pool of ember months misbelief, Fr. Adeyemi urged Christians to remember that with or without ember months, the eye of God is over the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayers; whereas, God detests those who do evil.

He however, encouraged them to carry on their usual activities just as they do during other months shunning any fear of ember months while being watchful and prayerful. According to the clergy, ascribing spiritual or superstitious ideas to happenings in the period are unchristian.

Earlier, a visiting Priest, Rev. Fr. Dominic Onwudinjo encouraged Christians to rejoice always. While he affirmed that sorrows exist in the world, he educates that trials are examination for the confirmation of faith - stressing further that anyone that has not passed through trial may not confidently claim faith.
