WHO WILL RESCUE OUR NATION?
Each day, each moment, each second in my noble nation comes with terrifying News. Hope of getting better is becoming an illusion and thing of the past. Everyone is scared and it seems no solution can be offered. The cry of “who will save us” has become the song on many lips.
Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, traditionally known as Corpus Christi, a special celebration that reminds Catholics of one of the greatest gifts Jesus gave to His Church, the Holy Eucharist. In the Eucharist, Christ gives us not merely a symbol, but His true Body and Blood as spiritual food for our journey through life. At a time when our nation faces insecurity, economic hardship, fear, and uncertainty like this, this feast invites us to turn our eyes to Jesus, who remains present among His people and offers hope, healing, and strength.
The Eucharist is a sign of God's abiding love. At the Last Supper, Jesus took bread and wine and transformed them into His Body and Blood, commanding His disciples to continue this sacred memorial. Through every Mass, Christ continues to nourish His people, unite them as one family, and strengthen them to face life's challenges. In a country where many people feel discouraged by violence, corruption, and division, the Eucharist reminds us that God has not abandoned us. He walks with us and remains present in our struggles.
Oyo state today is passing through trying times. Many families are burdened by rising costs of living, unemployment, insecurity, and the painful loss of loved ones through kidnapping and violence. These realities can easily lead to despair. Yet the Eucharist teaches us that even in suffering, Christ is with us. Just as He multiplied the loaves to feed the hungry crowd, He can provide for our needs and inspire leaders and citizens to work together for the common good.
History also shows that devotion to the Eucharist has brought protection, peace, and renewal to nations and communities. One notable of who will safe us? Example is the Eucharistic Miracle and devotion associated with many European countries during times of war, plague, and social unrest. In Poland, for instance, deep Eucharistic faith helped sustain the people through periods of occupation and oppression.
Throughout Church history, Eucharistic processions and prayers have often united communities in seeking God's intervention during crises. While the Eucharist is not a magical solution to political or social problems, it transforms hearts, inspires charity, strengthens faith, and encourages people to become instruments of peace and justice.
Our country needs this transformation today. If more people truly lived the values celebrated in the Eucharist love, sacrifice, forgiveness, unity, and concern for others many of our national problems would begin to diminish. The Eucharist calls us not only to receive Christ but also to become like Him in our daily lives.
As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, let us pray for Nigeria. May Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament heal our land, comfort those who suffer, protect the vulnerable, and guide our leaders with wisdom. May He strengthen our faith and help us build a nation founded on justice, peace, and genuine love for one another. In Christ, truly present in the Eucharist, we find the hope our nation desperately needs. When we cannot carry gun, we can carry Jesus around, let us stand up as Catholic and pray with deep faith for the good of our dear nation. Because, with Christ all things are possible.
