THE HERODS IN NIGERIA #END BADGOVERNANCE OR #END BAD LEADERS
On the 1st of October 1960, when our beloved country Nigeria gained independence, she was like an infant that was just birthed. Nigeria is now 64 years old.
Nigeria can be described as a country blessed by God, a country filled with potentialities, a country blessed with abundant natural resources, a country blessed with great human resources. What more can we ask for? Nigeria is highly blessed in all ramifications – however in one way or another Nigeria is destroyed by ‘Herods’.
In the Gospel reading of Mathew 2.13-15, Joseph and Mary, the father and mother of our Lord Jesus Christ took the child Jesus from the land of Judah to the land of Egypt because Herod was searching for the child Jesus to kill him. Why was Herod searching for Jesus to kill him?
- Herod was egoistic.
- Herod was consumed by power and position.
- Herod was ready to stay in power forever.
- Herod was not after public interest (the salvation Jesus brings), rather he was after his private interest.
Furthermore, in the Gospel of Matthew 2.16-17, the word of God states that Herod was furious that he could not lay his hands on Jesus, hence he gave orders that young boys in Bethlehem (the birth place of Jesus) and its neighbourhood are to be killed.
When you view Nigeria as a country, you can easily see personalities that depict the person of Herod. Herod is real not only in the time of our Lord Jesus Christ, but also in our own time, in our country Nigeria. The prominent ‘Herods’ we have in Nigeria presently are the Bad Leaders. In the past few days, individuals and organizations have subscribed to a movement known as #ENDBADGOVERNANCE.
What we should be clamouring for is: #END BAD LEADRES. We need to protect Nigeria from the hands of BAD LEADERS, they are the ones condoling the exercises of the unlawful practices of the Security operatives.
They have not measured up to their responsibilities. The heinous activities of Security operatives are a mindset innate in most Nigeria leaders.
In Nigeria, we have leaders that are ready to remain in power forever, if they are not directly in governmental positions, they appoint their own people, or even their siblings, while they remain godfathers for life.
Majority of the citizens are in hardship. No three squared meal, many are jobless, there is no conducive environment for business to strive, prices of petroleum products have become unaffordable in the name of deregulation, many are forced to pay multiple taxes even when government fails to utilize the revenue from such taxes for the common good of all, no basic amenities to enjoy by Nigerians, forcing many to leave the country for greener pasture.
In Nigeria, we have so many leaders that are self-centred, instead of serving the nation, they are just accumulating wealth for themselves.
Fellow Nigerians, AS WE CLAMOUR FOR #END BADGOVERNANCE, WE SHOULD CLAMOUR MORE FOR # END BAD LEADERS.
