The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki has announced the passing of its beloved bishop, Peter Nworie Chukwu, who died on April 10, 2026, at the age of 60.

 

Ordained a priest in 1993 and installed as the 3rd Bishop of Abakaliki in 2021, he served the Church with humility, strength, and unwavering faith.

 

Just last month, he was elected Assistant Secretary of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria, a role he embraced with dedication, even as God quietly called him home.

 

A shepherd of peace, a father to many, and a servant of Christ until the very end.

 

His passing leaves a deep void in the Church.

Yet, we do not grieve without hope.

 

For the Bishop who led others to God

has now returned to Him.

 

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

May his soul rest in peace. Amen.
