At St. Peters Catholic Church along Iganmode Road, Ota, Ogun State, within the Abeokuta Diocese, a significant spiritual milestone was celebrated during the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday of 2026. Eight catechumens—four boys and four girls—were baptized on Easter Vigil, while seventeen candidates—five boys and twelve girls—received their First Holy Communion on Easter Sunday.

Rev. Sr. Mary Abodunrin DHS, the Director of Religious Education at the parish, revealed that the catechumens underwent a rigorous two-year catechesis programme before qualifying for the sacraments. She expressed gratitude to the voluntary catechists—Mr. Soji Joseph, Mr. Silas Sunday, Mr. Raymond Ifada, Miss Naomi Atayi, and Mrs. Mary Akpan—all dedicated members of the parish’s Legion of Mary Society, for their invaluable contributions to the candidates’ preparation.

Sr. Mary emphasized that all catechumens met the necessary criteria for receiving the sacraments, which included regular attendance at catechism classes, a minimum age of 10 years, and active participation in the Easter Triduum retreats. These requirements culminated in a comprehensive two-year spiritual formation process. However, she also highlighted a pressing need for more trained catechists in the parish and encouraged interested parishioners to step forward and support this vital ministry.

The sacraments were administered by the parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Clement Ajibola Ashade, who congratulated the candidates and urged them to remain steadfast in their faith. He also called on parents and godparents to continue being exemplary role models for the newly initiated members of the Church community.
