Fidelis ENWEMEKA
On Valentine’s Day 2026, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Iganmode Road, Ota Abeokuta Diocese, hosted a special family life programme themed “Effective Communication in Marriage and Family Life: Benefits and Challenges.” The event combined holy Mass, drama, interactive discussions, and family sharing sessions. Guest speakers, Engr. Helen Ebhomielen and Sir Emmanuel Ebhomielen, a married couple, led the forum.
In her welcome address, Pharmacist (Mrs.) Ezenwanne Nneka, Parish Coordinator of the Family and Human Life Unit (FHLU), highlighted the importance of communication as the foundation of healthy relationships—whether in marriage, friendship, or professional life.
Mrs. Nkwocha Uchenna, President of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO), encouraged intending couples to embrace the sacrament of matrimony without waiting for financial stability, noting that weekday weddings conducted simply carry the same sacramental value as elaborate weekend ceremonies.
Rev. Sr. Mary Abodunri, DHS, Coordinator of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Community Ota, spoke on marriage as a vocation, sacrament, and gift to the Church. She emphasized the Church’s role in preparing couples, witnessing vows, and supporting families throughout their journey, affirming that events like this forum are part of the Church’s mission to strengthen family life.
Mr. Ekpeyong Augustine, Chairman of the Planning Committee and a trained marriage counsellor, organized participants into groups for reflection and evaluation. Couples shared insights on their relationships, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn and grow together.
Closing the programme, Parish Priest Very Rev. Fr. Clement Ajibola Ashade thanked participants and assured them of the Church’s continued commitment to nurturing marriages and family bonds.
