ARCHBISHOP ABEGUNRIN ORDAINS 9 DEACONS, CLOSES JUBILEE YEAR OF HOPE
Fr. Peter T. IBIMILUYI
In a grand celebration, the Archdiocese of Ibadan witnessed the ordination of 9 deacons, including 3 from the Archdiocese and 6 Claretian priests, as the Archbishop declares the Jubilee Year of Hope closed.
The event, which coincided with the Feast of the Holy Family, was a poignant reminder of the importance of family values in today's world. In his homily, V. Rev. Fr. Richard Omolade lamented the decay of modern family life, urging congregants to return to traditional virtues of love, presence, charity, and forgiveness, exemplified by the Holy Family.
"Parents, be present for your children," he emphasized. "You are not just material providers, but emotional and spiritual guides. The family is the first Church, and parents are the first teachers."
“Archbishop Abegunrin officially closed the Jubilee Year of Hope. Highlighting the various activities and initiatives undertaken by individuals, parishes, and groups, he encouraged the faithful to continue applying the lessons learnt, as the journey of faith continues,” the Pastoral Vicar noted.
The homilist equally called on all youths to embrace the sacrament of Holy Matrimony as ordained and prescribed by the Church as this is the only way can promote and build a family. He discouraged them from all ideologies around seeking to mock the institution of marriage and family.
The celebration was attended by Archbishop Emeritus of Ibadan, Most Rev. Dr. Felix Alaba Job, Claretian Fathers, Religious Leaders, and families. Notably, one of the Ordinands, Rev. Job Felix, is a 4th-generation clergy from the Job dynasty.
Archbishop Abegunrin praised the success of the event and urged the newly ordained deacons to remain humble and dedicated as they pursue the priesthood. He wished all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
