Sammya Commences Reconstruction of Lagere Catholic Church Fence
Sammya Nigeria Limited, a company responsible for the construction of flyover; a project of the Osun State government at Lagere area of Ile-Ife, Osun State - has commenced the reconstruction of the affected structures of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Pro-Cathedral, Lagere, Ile-Ife.
Recall that a reconstruction agreement was signed after the scheduled August 12 demolition failed due to lack of proper communication with the Church. Though the agreement stipulates the reconstruction within one month of demolition, it has however, commenced within a week of the agreement.
While the reconstruction is ongoing, the affected fence and structures are gradually undergoing demolition at the time of this report.
In another development, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Peter Adeyemi, in his address, Sunday 25 August relates on interaction between virtues, vices and morally upright deeds.
While he defined virtues as the positive human behavioural dispositions to do the morally right things; he separated the disposition to do the morally right things for wrong reasons or selfish motives from being explicitly counted as a virtue.
To corroborate his assertions, he referred to both the examples of a young internet fraudster who decided to sponsor indigent students, and that of a corrupt public official who donates huge sum of money to the community to show financial superiority as an act, far from virtuousness. From the mouth of Aristotle, he noted that humans become what they repeatedly do.
However, in order to acquire virtue, Fr. Adeyemi educated that Christians should be holy because holiness is the perfection of charity which in turn is exclusive without virtue.
According to the Priest, prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance are four cardinal virtues whose appreciation has been lost in the current time. He however stressed the need to make recourse to the cardinal virtues while striving for holiness.
