Advent Period is a Mini Lent for Catholics Says Fr. Anthony Fasakin

Rev. Fr. Anthony Fasakin, the Cathedral Assistant Administrator opened the Eucharistic Celebration on First Sunday of Advent by greeting everyone Happy New Year. He explained further that the day in the Catholic Church Worldwide marks the beginning of a New Calendar Year.
The priest explained the similarities of Advent and Lent, saying there is omission of Gloria, the altar will not be decorated with much flowers and the colour for the season is purple just like that of Lenten season.
Fr. Anthony implored the congregation to prepare for the coming of the Lord by examining themselves spiritually, checking where they've erred and prepare not to repeat the out gone year mistakes in the new year. "Fast. Pray your rosary. Identify what you've not been doing right. Advent is a mini lent. Even if it’s a light fast, do, in order to fortify yourself spiritually for the journey ahead."
The homilist admonished the faithful to put God first in everything and make Him the highest mountain in their life. "Your Christmas chicken and clothes should be hills, not the highest mountain. When you put God first in your life, you will have inner peace and total satisfaction. If we all put God first in everything, we will not be facing the challenges we are having in our society today."
He concluded his homily by saying that the readings of the day are waking believers up to spiritual consciousness. "A time will come that there won't be an end to that end. Now we are in a time that has an end and a new beginning. Use this time to prepare your heart for God and correct your mistakes."
The Society members of Board of Church Warden also used the parish bulletin back page to celebrate the elevation of their member; His Royal Majesty Oba Sir Edward Oyewole, fondly called Ayéda, as the Otun Olubadan of Ibdanland by His Imperial Mejesty, Oba Senator Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja.
