Vice Chancellor of Dominican University Pays Courtesy Visit to NISER Ibadan

In a bid to foster academic collaboration and strengthen institutional ties, the Vice Chancellor of Dominican University, Professor Jacinta Opara paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Institute for Social and Economic Research (NISER) in Ibadan on Wednesday August 14, 2024.

During the visit, the Vice Chancellor held quality discussions with the Director-General of NISER, Prof. Anthonia Taiye Simbine, and other Senior Officials, exploring potential areas of partnership and knowledge sharing between the two institutions for mutual benefit.

Speaking on the significance of the visit, Prof Opara remarked, “We are excited to explore opportunities for collaboration with NISER, a renowned institution in social and economic research.”

The Vice Chancellor mentioned that there was a need to foster collaboration between both institutions in research, grant writing, resource support by the Members of Staff amongst many other things.

She noted that this partnership has the potential to drive innovation, improve research outcomes, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development agenda. And as such the university is looking forward to a fruitful collaboration that will benefit both institutions and the nation at large.

The Director-General of NISER, Prof. Simbine, also expressed enthusiasm about the potential partnership, stating, “We look forward to collaborating with Dominican University to advance research and development in Nigeria especially as we have so many other institutions locally and internationally that we work with.”

Also, she felicitated with the Vice Chancellor on her appointment as the first female VC of the Dominican University. 

Furthermore, the Director General noted that both institutions share a common goal of advancing knowledge and promoting socio-economic growth. And that by working together, both institutions can leverage each other’s strengths, expertise, and resources to achieve greater impact. 

The remarks of the Head of the Economic Unit, NISER articulated the interest to co-join efforts with the Head of Economics Department, DUI. He recognized that as neighbors and institutions of research and higher learning, it is necessary to collaborate for the development of the country and the world at large. 

The courtesy visit underscores the commitment of Dominican University to building strategic relationships with leading research institutions like NISER, with the aim of advancing academic excellence and driving socio-economic development.

This visit marks the beginning of a new chapter in the collaborative journey between both institutions. Further details about the visit and formalization of collaborations will be announced in due course.
