Miracle Stories
Dr. Helen Titilola OLOJEDE
Do you have any difficulty in your life? This month is a great month to reopen it with the Lord.
Call me a lover of miracles from praying the Holy Rosary, and you will not be wrong. Reading such miracles shore up my faith and reinforce my conviction that praying the Holy Rosary is the most underrated prayer. So in this month of Our Lady, I bring you confirmed miraculous stories and apparitions.
A living sign of the Holy Rosary’s power shines in the recent stories of those whose lives were transformed through Mary’s intercession. In the 21st century, the Church has officially recognised several miraculous healings that were preceded by fervent rosary prayers, confirming what the Saints and Popes have long taught about this devotion.
Mamerto Esquiù in Argentina was reported to have suffered from a terminal condition while his family entrusted him to the rosary. The Diocesan investigation, later validated by the Holy See, concluded that the healing was “swift, complete, lasting and inexplicable by scientific standards”. Both the medical board and the theological consultants gave a positive judgment, and the Cardinals and Bishops confirmed the miraculous character of the event.
In Africa, in Kibeho, Rwanda, there was the apparition between 1981 and 1989, but it was recognized in 2001 based on factors such as sincerity and psychological balance of the consistency of the messages with the Church’s teaching and the positive spiritual fruits observed among those who embraced the message of Kibeho. The visionaries were three young women. The message conveyed by Our Lady of Kibeho, (named after the venue of the apparition) emphasized prayer, penance, and reconciliation, with Mary identifying herself as Nyina wa Jambo (Mother of the Word), where she called for genuine repentance, a conversion of hearts, and a commitment to living the Gospel.
In Europe, the story of Lucia dell’Immacolata (Maria Ripamonti) also bears witness to the Rosary’s efficacy. After invoking Mary through the rosary, she experienced a sudden and lasting cure from a disease that had plagued her for years. The Congregation’s medical panel described the cure as “rapid, perfect, stable and inexplicable by the laws of science”, and the subsequent theological and episcopal consultations affirmed the miracle as a clear sign of divine intervention through Marian intercession.
These modern miracles echo the Church’s longstanding doctrine on the Rosary.
Pope John Paul II emphasized that the Rosary has always been linked to “the most difficult problems” and that its recitation carries “particular efficacy” for the faithful. Pope Leo XIII described public rosary prayer as a “mighty host” that repels spiritual and temporal assaults, highlighting its communal power.
May the Lord answer our Prayers.
