Episode 90 THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – PART X TITLES AND TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH ABOUT MARY
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
The Church teaches that Mary was conceived without original sin. This is Immaculate Conception. In other words from the first moment of her existence, Mary was full of grace which means she is free from any alienation from God due to original sin.
From among the descendants of Eve, God chose the Virgin Mary to be the Mother of his Son. “Full of grace”, Mary is the most excellent fruit of redemption (SC 103); from the first instant of her conception, she was totally preserved from the stain of original sin and she remained pure from all personal sin throughout her life
One can safely attribute this special privilege to the fact of her special role in God’s salvific plan. She was graced so to say with this divine favor, which is also anticipated in the death and resurrection of her Son.
In addition to this, is the closeness of Mary to God such that she was free from actual sin (personal sins), that is. She lived a blameless life, she was pure, perfect, spotless, uniquely conceived. Put simply, a corrupt nature could not have conceived the incorrupt, she, the mother of God and all Holy. The annunciation by Angel Gabriel: “Rejoice highly favoured! The Lord id with you” – Luke 1:28 is a proclamation of Mary as the Most Blessed of all humans.
