Vincent OBANIYI
Saint Francis Catholic Church, Awe, was filled to capacity on Saturday, June 21, 2025, as Samuel Ojeyinka and Francisca Akinsowon were joined in holy matrimony. The wedding ceremony took place during a Solemn Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Emmanuel Badejo of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. John Opoola reminded the congregation that they had gathered to witness the sacred exchange of vows between the couple. He emphasized the indissolubility of the marital union and described marriage as a lifelong partnership.
Fr. Opoola further advised the couple to always love, care for, and be considerate toward each other. He urged them to remain prayerful, participate regularly in the Holy Mass, receive the Holy Eucharist, and seek the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary through the Rosary. He concluded by encouraging them to listen to God through daily Scripture reading and to live disciplined lives.
In his remarks, Bishop Emmanuel Badejo congratulated the couple and expressed his joy that two young Catholics were uniting in the sacrament of marriage. He also extended his gratitude to all who contributed to the couple’s spiritual formation—priests, religious, and lay faithful alike. He encouraged the young people present to emulate the example set by the newly-weds.
The Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Frs. Ferdinand Olabode, John Opoola, Anthony Adepoju, Samson Ojo, Augustine Olayiwola, John Alayande, Patrick Eyitayo, Matthew Oladosu, Julius Olayinka, Peter Ojeniyi, and Rev. Gideon Audu. The wedding was witnessed by religious from various Congregations in the Diocese, the families of the newly-weds, friends, and well-wishers.
Following the celebration, the newly-weds Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Francisca Ojeyinka expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all who made the day memorable. “We extend our deepest gratitude to Bishop Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo for gracing our wedding celebration with your presence on short notice. Your presence was truly meaningful,” they shared. “We also appreciate the priests and religious who joined us, and pray that God continues to guide and bless you. To our friends and well-wishers, thank you for your kindness and support. May God bless you abundantly.” The Couple prayed.
