
CYON OTA DEANERY CELEBRATES CULTURAL FIESTA

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, youths of the five parishes in St. Peter Ota Deanery, gathered at St. Peter Catholic Church along Iganmode Road Ota, Abeokuta Diocese, Ogun State to celebrate a cultural fiesta. The theme of the event was ‘Celebrating our Heritage in Faith and Unity’.
According to the CYON Ota Deanery Coordinator, Mr. Ozoemena Edward Romanus, the purpose of the fiesta was "to showcase the uniqueness of our culture and heritage and also show the world that Christianity does not take away people's culture”.
Speaking on ‘The importance of upholding our culture and avoiding any tradition that contradicts the true teaching of Christ and the Church’, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Dialeme Emmanuel congratulated the youths on their decision to come together to uphold their culture amidst the craze for foreign ways of life. He encouraged them to remain resolute in their faith as Catholics while practicing their diverse cultures.
In a beauty pageant that was organized as part of the fiesta, Mr. Nworie Solomon emerged as King, while Miss Ubeyoriobhe Akhere Evelyn was selected as Queen of the Youth.
Present at the occasion were: Very Rev. Fr. Clement Ajibola Ashade - the Dean of St. Peter Ota Deanery; Very Rev. Fr. Miguel Olajide Gomez - the CYON Chaplain of St. Peter Ota Deanery and Parish Priest of St. Anthony Parish Itele; Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Obiele MSP - the former CYON Chaplain of St. Peter Ota Deanery and the Parish Priest of Our Lady Queen of Angel Ilogbo. Rev. Sr. Mary Abodunrin (DHS) and Mrs. Nkwocha Uchenna the CYON Patroness were also at the occasion. CYON Ota parish entertained guests with cultural dance.
