The Cathedral Administrator, Very Rev. Fr. Julius Akinyode has admonished candidates who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday to allow the Holy Spirit full access to their Souls. He said this during his homily delivered on Pentecost Sunday, 8th June, 2025 at St. Mary Cathedral, Oke-Padi, Ibadan.

He said the gift we really need from the Holy Spirit is what will make us more human and more Spiritual. "The first gift the Holy Spirit shall give to you is the gift of courage. You shall be the witnesses to God's glory through the works of the Holy Spirit. I charge all of you today to dispose yourself fully to the Holy Spirit by leaving behind your old ways of sin, and embracing the new way of holiness," he said.

Speaking further, Fr. Akinyode advised the parents not to put pressure on their children all in the name of speaking in tongues. "Parents, I want to beg you not to pressurize these children needlessly. Majority of us look forward to receiving a gift that will enable us to be exceptional from others, whereas Holy Spirit does not work that way. Many lay emphasis on speaking in tongues, but majority fakes it. Different gifts, but same spirit. Do not teach the Holy Spirit how to work, instead, dispose yourself totally and allow the Holy Spirit to work in you and through you," he added.

In conclusion, Fr. Akinyode admonished all the candidates for confirmation to allow the white robes they put on have significant purity effect on them.

At the Mass, many candidates from various parishes and institutions such as St. Mary Cathedral, St. Christopher Sango, St Mulumba Alakia, Vacationist Ido, Dominican University and St. Theresa Minor Seminary Oke-Are, received Sacrament of Confirmation which was administered by the Chief Celebrant of the day, Archbishop Gabriel 'Leke Abegunrin.
