Episode 78 SACRAMENTALS – PART I

 WHAT IS A SACRAMENTAL?

Sacramentals are holy things or articles or actions with which the Church asks God to grant us favors, especially spiritual favors. They are also sacred signs that are closely connected to the sacraments and prepare a person to receive them.

The catechism teaches us that Sacramentals are “holy things or actions which the Church makes use of, to obtain from God, through her intercession, spiritual and temporal favors.” A sacramental is anything set apart or blessed by the Church to excite good thoughts and to help devotion.

It is through the prayers of the Church offered by those who make use of these Sacramentals, as well as through devotions, that they convey and obtain God’s grace and blessings.

BENEFITS OF SACRAMENTALS?

Sacramentals are channels of grace and can obtain for us these benefits:

1. Forgiveness of venial sins.

2. Remission of temporal punishment.

3. Health of body and material blessings.

4. Protection from evil spirits.
