As part of the Communications Week Celebration, the Social Communications Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo organized a training workshop on the opening and management of Facebook pages for Churches and Parishes.
The event, held at St. Anne Catholic Church, Barracks, Ogbomoso, brought together participants from various parishes in Ogbomoso Deanery. The workshop began with an opening prayer from a representative of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rounda, followed by a welcome address by Rev. Fr. Samson Ojo, Dean of Ogbomoso Deanery, who highlighted the importance of digital evangelization in today’s Church.
Rev. Fr. John Irekiigbe, the Diocesan Communications Director, then outlined the objectives of the training, emphasizing social media as an essential tool for parish communication and evangelization outreach. Participants also shared their expectations, which included learning how to create Facebook pages and protect their accounts from hackers.
The practical training was facilitated by Vincent Obaniyi, the Diocesan Communication Officer, who is also a Social Media Manager, Photographer, and Video Editor. He guided participants through the process of creating and managing Facebook pages, engaging parishioners online, and ensuring that online content aligns with the teachings and values of the Church. Attendees were actively engaged throughout the session and expressed their gratitude.
In his closing remarks, the Vicar General, Very Rev. Fr. Boniface Wuraola, commended the initiative and encouraged participants to use social media responsibly for the mission of evangelization. Fr. John Irekiigbe also expressed appreciation to all involved, including the resource persons and participating parishes.
The workshop concluded with prayers led by Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Sangotayo, followed by a final blessing from the Vicar General.
