FR. JOLASUN URGES CHILDREN TO BE PRAYERFUL, GENTLE, COURAGEOUS, AND THANKFUL.

Vincent OBANIYI.

Children's Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and excitement at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Apaara, Oyo, drawing a large crowd of children from the Parish, the community and pupils from Seat of Wisdom Nursery and Primary School, Jabatta, accompanied by some of their teachers.

The celebration commenced with a participatory Holy Mass, presided over by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Olabode Jolasun. The children played active roles during the liturgy, forming part of the choir members, altar servers, and lectors. During the homily, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Jolasun engaged the children in an interactive reflection. In a beautiful show of unity and inclusiveness, one of the teachers who is a Muslim, Miss Kabirat Adeyemi, beautifully summarized the first reading of the day (Acts 16:22-34), drawing out lessons of the place of worshiping God in every situation, giving due respect to our leaders in the faith, praying without ceasing like Paul and Silas, and becoming courageous in faith in every situation

Fr. Benjamin further encouraged the children to remain prayerful, gentle—reflecting the Pope’s message for the 2025 World Communication Day—courageous, and always ready to give praise to God in all circumstances. His message resonated with the children and adults alike, creating a spirit of reflection and joy.

As Communication Week continues and in line with the Children's Day celebration, three of our children; Ogunsanya Immaculata, Adegoke Claire, and Obaniyi Rebecca proudly represented the Church at Dynasty Radio Station in Oyo Town for a radio competition among their age group. The trio performed excellently, showcasing confidence and eloquence that made the Church proud.

After the Mass, the atmosphere became even more lively with a series of engaging activities. The children participated in colourful presentations, energetic dances, educational quizzes, and exciting games. The entire Church premises was filled with laughter, music, and the cheerful noise of children enjoying the day.

The success of the celebration was made possible through the combined efforts of the Parish Priest, the children’s animators, devoted parishioners, and the spirited participation of the children. It was a day to remember, one that ended with jubilation and bright smiles on the faces of the children and all present.
