Bishop Badejo gives kudos to Signis Africa, challenges CAEAN Members', 'Raw Content

His Lordship, Bishop Badejo has appreciated the efforts of Priests and Religious who form the board of Signis Africa. He made this known in his address at the opening ceremony of the first Annual Conference and CAEAN National Convention, held at Capuchin Center Olomi-Olunde, Ibadan, Nigeria.

The prelate noted that the efforts of this board headed by Rev. Fr. Prof. Walter C. Ihejirika (Nigeria) and assisted by Rev. Fr. Alberto Buque (Mozambique) has made Signis Africa a force to recogn with in the world. Prof. Ihejirika according to the renowned communicator is making a commendable efforts to put SIGNIS Africa on the pedestal it should be. SIGNIS as it were is the body that brings together all media practitioners and professionals. SIGNIS has grown in status and achievements, the Prelate exclaimed.

Bishop Badejo extended his greetings to the people of God who gathered to learn more on how to be good Catholic entertainers. He recognized the presence of some notable Dignitaries some of which are the National Director of Communication CSN/CAEAN National Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Dr. Mike Umoh and the highly delectable National President of CAEAN, Dr. Charles Okwuowulu DGN, whose leadership and administrative skills are enviable and instrumental for the growth of the National body of CAEAN. He did not fail to commend the efforts of the Ibadan Archdiocesan Body of CAEAN under the leadership of Amb. Edith Isidahomen for their energy and attempt to keep the seed of CAEAN growing and alive.

The Catholic Bishop of Oyo Diocese stated that "SIGNIS and especially CAEAN is a take over tool of the Catholic Church for today's society" He educated the people on what CAEAN stands for as a body for entertainers. CAEAN was borne not in the church compound, not before the blessed Sacrament, but in a hotel. He therefore challended and  encouraged CAEAN members to dare to go to those places where the gospel is not welcomed, to deal with those issues, topic which the gospel is not expected to feature. These are the points where the church wants you to use your art, skills and entertainers, the Prelate exclaimed. With the theme of the conference "Faith, Film and Intercultural Harmonu in Africa", members are once more reminded of the role they are to play in building the kingdom of God in Africa with the skills and talents God has given.

He pointed out one of the contents of the communique issued by SEPACS in Lagos, Nigeria, last November, which is a call to "all Catholic communicators to champion the ethical discourse in traditional, modern and contemporary communication especially in new media initiatives and in relevant sectors." The Clergyman stated that this call is evident in the gathering of CAEAN.  He continued by saying "Intercultural harmony and intergenerational understanding and collaboration are authentic areas of interest and concern for priests and faithful to promote in our troubled continent particularly at this period of synodality." All of us are called to promote this and are called to the art of image and sound (film) to promote the gospel and culture of life and love. We are to get into the secular culture and build a new culture of love and life, He called.
